In Home Palliative Care and Hospice Assessment
This 1 hour individualized, comprehensive service is intended to discuss all aspects of your pet’s health, quality of life and management of their medical needs. It will include a full review of all provided medical records, a thorough physical exam and review/adjustment of treatment plans. Lab work, medications for pain or well-being will be available if indicated and desired. You are welcome to continue care with your regular veterinarian if you choose but we can continue care at home including prescribing medications and continued blood work if travel has become troublesome.
In home euthanasia: Euthanize your pet in the comfort of their own home. This compassionate and final act of love can be given to a pet who is suffering, or has a limited quality of life.
In Home Euthanasia
In home euthanasia will begin with an explanation of the process and what is to be expected given the specific circumstances of your pet’s condition. After the discussion, your pet will be given a sedative to relieve any pain or anxiety they may be feeling. They will typically be resting peacefully in 5-15 minutes while everyone has time to say their final goodbyes. This will then be followed by a second injection to help your pet pass peacefully within only a few minutes. After your pet has passed, we can assist with aftercare (see Aftercare), or you can choose to handle these arrangements yourself.
Bay Rivers Veterinary Services provides the following options for taking care of your pet after euthanasia. Cremation services are provided by Sweet Dreams.

***Please Note: BRVS performs euthanasia only on pets who have an unmanageable disease or those with little quality of life remaining. We reserve the right to refuse euthanasia if we feel it is being chosen as a convenience option. We will not euthanize a patient with a manageable or treatable disease. If we determine that it is not time to euthanize your pet, a house call fee and quality of life examination charge will be assessed.
